Gregorio Davila (he/him) is a writer and all-around visual artist. Much of his work focuses on people of color, mainly Latinos, who he believes are grossly under and misrepresented in media, especially Queer Latin@s. He has written, produced, edited, and directed two short films: NANCY FROM EAST SIDE CLOVER, which played in twelve festivals around the world and won five awards, and JEANNE CORDOVA: BUTCHES, LIES & FEMINISM which made its festival debut at Outfest Los Angeles in July 2017, winning the Jury Award for Best Short Documentary. JEANNE has played in five more festivals around the country, earning two more Jury Awards and one Audience Award. Davila leads L.A. A Queer History, Inc. (LAQH), an independent production company in Los Angeles, owned and operated by Queer Latinos that is dedicated to showcasing marginalized Latine LGBTQ+ stories, particularly surrounding Los Angeles. Since 2015, LAQH, Inc. has produced three award-winning documentaries: NANCY FROM EAST SIDE CLOVER, JEANNE CORDOVA: BUTCHES, LIES & FEMINISM, and L.A. A QUEER HISTORY.

Mario J. Novoa (he/him) is a professional film director and producer who resides in Los Angeles, California. Mario began his career in the arts in high school as an assistant director, where he learned the art of stage direction and production management. The Film Independent’s Project Involve diversity mentoring program provided Novoa the opportunity to further learn the process of filmmaking. Director Miguel Arteta—of Chuck & Buck and Beatriz at Dinner fame—mentored him through the length of the six-month program. Through Film Independent, Novoa was awarded the Barbara Boyle Scholarship to attend the Producing Program at The Los Angeles Film School (LAFS). There, he further developed his directing, producing, and marketing skills. During his time at the LAFS, he produced five short films, two of which won an industry award. Shortly after graduation, he began his own production company, Novoa Entertainment. Novoa received a Producing degree from The Los Angeles Film School in 2000 and a Bachelor of Science degree in Internet Marketing from Full Sail University in 2013.

Roland Palencia (he/him) is a pioneering LGBTQ activist who founded a number of Queer Latin organizations in the 1980s, including Gay & Lesbian Latinos Unidos and VIVA! Currently, he is the Community Benefits Director and a leadership trainer at L.A. Care Health Plan. Formerly, he served as Executive Director of Equality California. He has also held executive leadership roles at The California Endowment, Clinica Monseñor Oscar A. Romero, and AIDS Healthcare Foundation. He has received numerous recognitions and awards for his community service, including “Local Hero” by PBS-KCET and Union Bank of California.

This program is organized by Gregorio Davila and is co-presented with the Los Angeles LGBT Center as part of Circa: Queer Histories Festival 2024, presented by One Institute.
