Beth Chayim Chadashim and Wilgefortis Press, will host a conversation about the queer, Mizrahi experience with authors, activists and influencers. Featuring speakers from Iraq and Iran, the conversation will explore the struggle and resilience of their immigrant and refugee experiences. This conversation will take place during Sukkot, the week-long Jewish holiday that celebrates hospitality and the fall harvest. The conversations seek to foster awareness of the needs of the queer, Mizrahi community.

“Keshet Konnection: a Conversation About the Queer, Mizrahi Experience” will take place at Beth Chayim Chadashim on Friday, October 25, 2024, from 6-7:30 p.m.

Participants


Kilian Colin is a storyteller and author of fiction novels and wartime memoirs. Originally from Baghdad, Kilian brings the rich cultural heritage of his hometown to life in his writing, drawing inspiration from his experiences in science and his dedication to advocating for human rights. Kilian seeks solace in the tranquil shores of San Diego, where he enjoys leisurely walks along the beach, accompanied by the enchanting melodies of traditional Iraqi music by Salima Pasha Murad and Salah Daoud Al-Kuwaiti.


Rabbi Jillian Cameron received ordination from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 2012 after receiving a master’s degree in Religious Education in 2008, also from HUC-JIR. Rabbi Cameron served as the Assistant Rabbi and Educator in Virginia, the Director of InterfaithFamily/Boston and is currently the rabbi of Beth Chayim Chadashim, the world’s first LGBTQ synagogue in Los Angeles. She believes in the power and importance of diversity in the Jewish community and our responsibility to seek justice and model compassion for all.
