Ever wonder what drag looked like before social media, RuPaul’s Drag Race, and the ubiquity of the smartphone? Join filmmaker Larin Sullivan, director of The Young King and the new drag king documentary The Other Drag, alongside Alex Bohs, editor of P.S. Burn This Letter Please, for a screening and discussion on the process of finding, using and working with newly vintage drag tapes.
Larin and Alex will share short clips of drag kings and queens from the Y2K era and other relevant films for a lively discussion and viewing party, exploring recent queer history, the process of archiving, and its intersection with filmmaking and storytelling.
This screening and discussion will take place at Akbar on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 5-6:30 p.m.
Attendees must be 21+ to enter.
