DragKingHistory.com showcases the extensive history of female-born performers who donned men’s attire for theatrical purposes. Drag King Legend Mo B. Dick will be highlighting Drag King History from breeches roles to en travesti, variety to vaudeville, male impersonation to drag kings, and drag kings to the gender free. Starting with the Tang Dynasty in China through to today, performer’s stories will be woven together to reflect the through-line from yesteryear to today.
This one-hour lecture presentation includes a brief introduction, a review of the glossary of terms, and an educational presentation, followed by an interactive Q&A. Because women, transgender, and non-binary folks have had a long history of invisibility and marginality, Mo B. Dick comes forward with this history so these courageous performers are recognized. The primary objective in presenting this workshop is to educate and empower.
The “Drag King History” lecture will take place online via Zoom on Sunday, October 20, 2024, from 1-2:30 p.m., allowing participants to join from all over the world.
This program is suitable for all ages.
