Got a book inside you? We hope you cleaned out first!
This generative workshop for folks living with HIV and their friends will take you through the process of creating a Zine — a short, DIY book — from concept to execution. Zines can be hilarious, informative, snarky, or lyrical. All you need is a piece of paper and a pen, and a willingness to play!
This workshop is facilitated by Brian Sonia-Wallace and co-hosted with APLA Health.
Brian Sonia-Wallace (Facilitator) is the West Hollywood City Poet Laureate, a 2021-22 Academy of American Poets Laureate Fellow for LGBTQ+ literary activism, and the author of Maze Mouth and The Poetry of Strangers: What I Learned Traveling America with a Typewriter. Brian’s company, RENT Poet, creates custom poems on-demand on vintage typewriters. He also runs a queer open mic the first Wednesday of every month at Micky’s WeHo and teaches at UCLA Extension Writers’ Program.
This program is organized by Brian Sonia-Wallace, Pride Poets, and APLA Health as part of the 2023 Circa: Queer Histories Festival, presented by One Institute.
The Los Angeles LGBT Center is a safe and welcoming place where the LGBTQ+ community finds help, hope, and support when it is needed the most.
